A man has been arrested as the Garda investigation into the death of a young woman found at a Limerick hotel this morning continues.

The man, who Garda say is in his mid-20s, is being held at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The woman discovered at Jury's Inn has been named as Ms Gráinne Dillon (24) from Cork city. She was a member of staff at the hotel in Limerick city centre.

Gardaí have interviewed staff and guests at the hotel after Ms Dillon’s body was discovered in the kitchen of the hotel by shocked staff at around 6 a.m. It is understood the woman had been stabbed several times.

The hotel was full because of Munster's Heineken European Cup rugby match against Harlequins this afternoon.

Members of the visiting team were among the people interviews by the Garda today. Harlequins' director of rugby, John Kingston, said: "They were all interviewed this morning for about five minutes each. Munster looks after us very well but it is a desperate situation and our thoughts are obviously with the poor parents."

The scene at Dock Road has been sealed off for technical examination and State Pathologist Prof John Harbison has been called in to conduct a post mortem on the body.
