GARDAÍ ARE investigating an armed raid on a cash-in-transit security van in Drogheda, Co Louth. Four men are understood to have been involved in the raid at Drogheda Industrial Estate.
Two men approached the van’s driver and threatened him with what appeared to be a shotgun shortly after 11am yesterday. A cash box with an undisclosed sum of money was taken by the men, who drove off in a red car with a 97 D registration, gardaí said.
The car was discovered a short time later at the Knightswood Estate just outside Drogheda.
Gardaí have asked for anyone with information to contact Laytown Garda station on 041-981 3320, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111 or any Garda station.
Meanwhile, in Co Kildare, three men were being questioned last night in relation to the attempted abduction of a security company employee and his family in Co Kildare nine months ago.
The men in their 30s and 40s were arrested in Dublin yesterday and were being held in Naas, Newbridge and Leixlip Garda stations.
They are being questioned about a raid at the Kilmeade home of Martin Lambe, his wife Sharon and their two-year-old son.
A gang of four masked men entered the house at about 5am on April 27th as Mr Lambe was preparing to leave for work as a driver for security company G4S Cash Solutions.
The gang fled when Ms Lambe activated a panic alarm, abandoning a white transit van outside the family home. No one was injured in the attempted raid.
The three men are being detained under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and can be held for up to seven days.
