Protestant residents have said they would suspend their protest outside the Holy Cross school in Belfast this morning as a mark of respect to the victims of terrorist attacks in the United States.
The residents protesting outside the Catholic primary school in north Belfast also held a prayer service for those who died in the attacks.
The prayer service was held shortly before nationalist parents and children made the now-familiar walk to the gates of the school escorted by RUC officers in riot gear.
The Glenbryn residents said after today's suspension, their protest would continue. Mr Stewart McCartney of the Concerned Residents of Upper Ardoyne said a lot of people in the area had relatives in the United States.
"We have been honouring the dead and the tragedy that has happened in America," he said.
"We are going to commemorate what happened and honour those people who lost their lives, but the protest still needs to go on until we have got the safety issues dealt with," he said.
Fr Aidan Troy, the local parish priest said the protesters' move was welcome but urged them to call off the protest permanently.
