London - British politician and best-selling author Jeffrey Archer, campaigning to become London's first elected mayor, said yesterday he liked the idea of the job so much he would do it for free.
Lord Archer (57) a former Conservative Party vice-chairman, said if he won the ballot expected in May 1999, he would also stop writing his best-selling novels. This would help him concentrate on the problems facing the city's seven million inhabitants. Londoners are expected to approve the new Greater London Authority, with a mayor, in a referendum on May 7th.
