London - Just as the press frenzy had begun to die down over Lord Archer's confession that he fabricated an alibi prior to his libel action against the Daily Star in 1987, fresh allegations were made yesterday about the alibi the Tory peer and popular novelist eventually relied on to win the court case against the newspaper, reports Rachel Donnelly
It emerged that Mr Nick Elliott, controller of drama at ITN television, has lodged a statement with solicitors claiming that the former theatrical agent, Mr Terence Baker, who died in 1991, admitted he had lied under oath when he appeared as a witness for Lord Archer during the libel case. The fresh allegations against Lord Archer make legal action against him to recover the £500,000 libel award and legal costs "inevitable", said Mr Nick Atkins, a partner at Lovell White Durrant, the law firm representing the Daily Star.
