Technology fans across the country joined queues this morning to be among the first in the country to get their hands on the iPad Mini.
Between 40 and 50 people began queuing at 7.30am outside Compu B on Grafton Street, Dublin to purchase the new gadget, with the cheapest model costing €339.
The store opened earlier than normal to accommodate those waiting outside and sold very well, according to a spokesman for the Grafton Street branch.
"The iPad Mini is very attractive, fits in one hand, is well-priced as has all the features of its older brother," he said.
At the store's Cork branch on Opera Lane a queue of 20 Apple fans began at 7.20am, with the first person to queue buying both the iPad Mini and new iPad 4.
So far today about 100 iPads have been sold in the Cork store, according to a Cork branch spokesman.
"More people came than we were expecting. It was a very cold morning and we were not expecting that much of a queue," he said.
In the Limerick branch, the new gadget has not received so much attention, with only two people waiting for the store to open to buy their iPad. A spokesman for Compu B Limerick said he was disappointed with the low turnout.
"We have only sold around 10 iPads today, which is disappointing. We were hoping to sell a whole lot more," he said.
"Every Apple launch for the last one and a half years have brought a queue outside. When the iPad 2 launched, we had a queue of 30 to 40 people waiting outside. We were hoping the Mini would sell more like that."
This is the second Apple launch in recent weeks, after the iPhone 5 launched on September 28th.
