International aid agencies have appealed for several million dollars for survivors of storms that battered the Philippines and have left 1,000 dead or missing.
The world's largest disaster relief body, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, is seeking two million Swiss francs ($1.7 million) to buy food, basic household supplies, mosquito nets and blankets, it said in a statement.
Funds would help the Philippines National Red Cross assist more than 800,000 people affected by Typhoon Nanmadol which hit the main northern island of Luzon, according to the Geneva body.
Separately, the United Nations Children's Fund appealed for $720,000 to help families.
"Water, food and medicines are the most urgent needs of survivors, many of whom are in crowded evacuation centres," it said.
The World Health Organization, another UN agency, expressed concern about potential contamination of water sources and said that diarrhoeal diseases were feared.
