More than 40 companies from the Republic and Northern Ireland were honoured at the annual Irish Print Awards ceremony in Dublin yesterday. The Print of the Year award was won by the Antrim, printer, Nicholson and Bass, for the 1997 National Gallery of Ireland calendar.
Last night's ceremony was attended by more than 350 members of the Irish graphic arts industry. The event is organised by Irish Printer magazine.
The Irish Printer Hall of Fame award was presented to Mr Joe Reddin, former deputy head of the School of Printing and Graphic Communications, Bolton Street, Dublin. Ms Marie Doran, financial controller at Colour Books, Baldoyle, Co Dublin, was voted Sappi Graphics Young Print Manager of the Year.
The Agfa Award for National Newspapers was presented to the Title, the sports newspaper, which is printed by the Midland Tribune. The Agfa Award for provincial newspapers went to the Meath Chronicle. Lithographic Universal of Bray won the Pershke Price Service Organisation award. The McNaughton Paper Ireland Award for Magazine Printing was won by Brookfield Printing Company Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
The Novacolour Graphic Supplies award went to Colour Books Baldoyle, Co Dublin, for the best printed book, An Onlooker in France. Nicholson and Bass got the Heidelberg Miller Group Award for Sheet fed Colour Offset Printing.
R.W. Pierce of Belfast won the ESM Papers Award for Business Forms. The Andrews Graphic Systems Award for Electronic Imaging went to the Stillorgan company, Lithoset.
The Stora Paperboard Award for Carton Packaging was won by Printcraft Packaging from Clonshaugh, Dublin. The Sericol Award for Screen Printing went to Print and Display Ltd, Cookstown Industrial Estate, Dublin.
In the self adhesive labels category, the Fasson Ireland Award went to the Berry Print Group of Westport, Co Mayo, while Stream International of Clonshaugh won the TQ Papers Award for Computer Manuals.
A special award, sponsored by the Reprocentre Group, for small printers with fewer than 10 employees, was won by Irish Lithoprint of Artane, Dublin.
