An antiques dealer has been jailed for two years for possessing cannabis worth €25,000 which he claimed he was selling to his friends.

Stephen Spencer (50), Valeview Close, The Park, Cabinteely, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of 2.5kg of cannabis for sale or supply at his business, Spencer Antiques and Restoration, Sunny Hill, on January 30th, 2010.

Judge Martin Nolan called Spencer “a decent man who made a grave error in judgment” but he said he had to impose a jail term because of the amount of drugs involved and Spencer’s mature age.
