THE Federation of Dublin Anti-Water Charges Campaigns is to field Dail candidates in Dublin constituencies as part of its campaign to have the charges abolished.

A conference held by the federation at the weekend decided to draw up and endorse a list of candidates "in as many Dublin constituencies as it considered feasible in the next general election". The federation also plans to have talks with campaigns against service charges outside Dublin with a view to drawing up a national list of candidates.

"All political parties are now on notice that the Dublin Anti Water Charges Campaign will prepare for the general election with the same diligence as was done in the case of the Dublin West by election," according to the federation's chairman, Councillor Joe Higgins. Mr Higgins narrowly lost the by election running as an anti water charges candidate.

The conference also decided to continue encouraging the boycott of the charges and defending those brought to court for non payment.
