THE Minister of State with responsibility for health promotion, Mr Brian O'Shea, has launched a new anti smoking campaign aimed at committees, political groups, sporting bodies, business groups and voluntary organisations.

The "Going smoke free the popular choice" campaign is being organised on behalf off the Office for Health Gain, by the Smoking Target Action Group, a partnership between the eight health boards, the Department of Health, the Irish Heart Foundation and the Irish Cancer Society.

Yesterday, the campaign coordinator, Ms Maura McNally, said 3,000 committees had already agreed to a voluntary, no smoking policy.

Leaflets outlining the campaign will be distributed from May 31st, World No Tobacco Day.
