SIX members of the Youth Defence organisation were arrested in Limerick on Saturday afternoon during an anti abortion demonstration. The protest began with a picket outside the home of the Minister for Health, Mr Noonan at about 3.15 pm. by up to 50 members of the organisation from Dublin, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
They then moved to O'Connell Street, where the crowd, according to gardai, had grown to about 100 people and city centre traffic was halted.
Gardai said complaints about colour posters depicting foetuses had been made at Henry Street station. When an attempt was made to confiscate one of the posters from a woman protester, five men came to her assistance and all six were arrested.
They were later released without charge.
