The number of new cars licensed in September rose by 12

The number of new cars licensed in September rose by 12.5 per cent year-on-year, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The CSO said there were 7,652 new private cars licensed in September compared with 6,799 last year.

The CSO says in the first nine months of 2002, there were 136,634 new private cars licensed, a decrease of 7 per cent on the corresponding period last year.

In the period January to September, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 192,362 compared with 209,096 in the same period last year, which represents a decrease of 8 per cent.

The number of new cars licensed in September fell by 23.8 per cent in September compared to August.

The highest number of new private cars licensed in September classified by make are Ford (841) followed by Volkswagen (805), Opel (663), Toyota (645), Nissan (626) and Renault (621).
