Oslo - UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan collected the centenary Nobel Peace Prize yesterday, urging more focus on easing individual suffering in a UN quest to end poverty, prevent conflict and foster democracy.
Mr Annan, who shares the $951,600 prize with the United Nations, said in his acceptance speech: "We have entered the third millennium through a gate of fire," referring to the September 11th attacks on the United States and strife in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
