A spokesperson for the Dublin Institute of Technology Academic Staff Association has expressed "outrage" at reports that the DIT would not be able, after all, to award "its own degrees in its own right".
Earlier this month the Minister for Education gave the DIT the power to award its own degrees. The academic staff association's statement followed a recommendation last week from the national certification authority, Teastas, that in future Teastas should approve, review and audit the DIT degree awarding process.
