The site of the former Andersonstown police station in west Belfast is to be developed for community use.
The North's Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie, announced today that the site will contain an extensive community area, retail units and residential apartments over five floors.
Leading local construction company the Carvill Group had been selected as the preferred bidder for the site at the junction of the Falls Road and Glen Road.
The minister said: "This development will contribute greatly to the regeneration of the Falls Road and the Upper Falls area. It is a great opportunity to create a significant landmark building on what is considered to be a 'gateway' site to greater west Belfast."
She said her department's Belfast regeneration Office would work closely with the developer and local community interests to ensure the local community benefited from the development.
The minister added that it would also help meet the considerable demand for residential development in the west Belfast area.
It is hoped that subject to planning permission being granted the work will begin in September 2008.
