London - Public safety fears have prompted the RSPCA to rehouse a five-foot alligator which was being kept in the bedroom of a flat. The Mississippi alligator, called Louis, was picked up by the RSPCA from the 10ft by 10ft room in a flat in Derbyshire and will be rehoused in a wildlife park today.
Louis could grow to 12ft in ideal conditions and live for 100 years. A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "There was a worry about the animal's welfare and, having seen the video of him, a very real worry about public safety."
