Belacevac - Ethnic Albanian insurgents have captured an important coal mine west of Kosovo's capital, Pristina, and are conducting daylight armed patrols within sight of the city, witnesses said yesterday.

"We are standing on this ridge and you can see Pristina in the background. Very soon I and my unit will be in Pristina and you can interview us there," Muja, a 27-year old local commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), said.

In Belgrade, the US envoy, Mr Richard Holbrooke, met the Yugoslav President, Mr Slobodan Milosevic, for the second time in two days. A news blackout was thrown over the talks, after which Mr Holbrooke was to fly back to Kosovo.
