An airliner with 42 passengers disappeared over Peru's Amazon jungle today after an emergency call to controllers minutes before its expected landing.
Tans airline Flight 1396 was three minutes away from landing at an airport in the city of Chachapoyas, 400 miles north of Lima, when it called in an emergency.
"That is when we lost contact with the plane and we don't have more information," said Tans spokesman Mr Jorge Belevan.
He said the Air Force has begun searching for the plane, a Fokker 28.
