Somali gunmen kidnapped two aid workers from the United States and Denmark working for Danish Demining Group in northern Somalia today, the second capture of aid workers working in the region this month, Somali officials said.

Abdullahi Salad, transport minister in the northern region of Galmudug,said the two aid workers were taken in the southern part of Galkayo this afternoon.

Abshir Diini Awale, minister of the interior and national security in Galmudug, said one was American and one was Danish. He said both worked for Danish Demining Group (DDG).

He said the aid workers were seized shortly after arriving at Galkayo airport.

"We don't know who kidnapped them but we have alerted our security forces to track down the hostages," he said.

Somali gunmen kidnapped two Spanish aid workers from the Dadaab refugee camp in northern Kenya earlier this month.
