The body of Joyce Campbell, the Irish aid worker who died in a road accident in Ethiopia on Sunday, is expected to be flown out of Addis Ababa later today.

The remains will be taken first to London, where they will be transferred on to a flight to Belfast, before completing the journey to her hometown of Dungloe, Co Donegal.

The 25-year-old died only two weeks after starting work as a teacher with a Vincentian Lay Missionaries project.

She had a contract to work for three months and hoped to extend it, according to Donegal TD and Minister of State for the Marine Pat the Cope Gallagher, a relative of the Campbell family.

Mr Gallagher praised as "absolutely superb" the efforts of the Irish charge d'affaires to Ethiopia, Don Sexton, to expedite the return of the remains.

But he said it could be tomorrow or even Friday before the body arrives in Donegal.

The two Irishmen injured in the crash - Paul Brady from Kildare and Alan Matthews from Dublin - were transferred yesterday from a hospital in Ethiopia to one in Nairobi, Kenya.

According to Fr Brian Moore of the Vincentians, the two were described as "comfortable and stable". Their injuries were still being assessed in Nairobi, he added.
