The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs has broadly welcomed the Report of the Victim's Commission and said he had noted the specific recommendations for an independent inquiry into the Dundalk bombing in 1975, in which two people were killed.
Mr Ahern, who is a TD for Co Louth, also welcomed the recommendation that a full inquiry be conducted into the murder of Seamus Ludlow in May 1976 and the subsequent handling of the case.
