The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will make an official visit to Malta on Sunday to discuss Malta's efforts to join the European Union.

Mr Ahern will meet President Guido de Marco, Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami and opposition leader Mr Alfred Sant for talks.
Malta applied to join the EU in 1990 and is amending its laws to be ready for membership by 2003.
