The Taoiseach today met Lithuania's president at Government Buildings and pledged the two nations would work together towards European Union enlargement.

Mr Bertie Ahern said he had discussed the EU with Mr Valdas Adamkus, in particular Ireland's rejection of the Nice treaty earlier this year.
"We have much in common - many cultural and historical links," Mr Ahern said of Lithuania.
"This is an opportunity for us, 10 years after independence in Lithuania to build, expand and enhance our relationship.
"We have talked about the enlargement process, we have talked about the difficulties we have had in that regard and we will work our way through that."
Mr Ahern also added Ireland was planning to open an embassy in Lithuania in the near future.
Mr Adamkus said he was looking forward to increased contact with Ireland.
"This is an historic visit to your country, we are grateful for the co-operation we are receiving," he said.
He met President Mary McAleese this morning.
