AGEISM IS the main theme of an unusual exhibition to be unveiled today. Kate Byrne's exhibition, Nobody Photographs Me Anymore, includes a video, a photographic installation and drawings.
The video installation juxtaposes the voice of an 80-year-old woman with the visuals of a 15- year-old girl and vice-versa.
The central issue of the photographic installation is the contemporary question of identity within the ageing sphere.
The subjects of the photographs are older women who all feel that their identity is marginalised and compromised by their elderly years.
The drawings have the theme of the culturally endemic fear and dread of ageing.
Nobody Photographs Me Anymoreopens at the West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen. Ms Byrne will give an artist's talk at the opening.
Ms Byrne was born in Limerick and graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 1999. Later in her career she attended the University of Ulster in Belfast and in 2002 was awarded a Masters degree with with distinction.
Her previous shows include a solo exhibition at the Old Museum Arts Centre in Belfast in 2000 and a series of exhibitions were staged in Shanghai and Beijing last year.
