CROSSHAVEN is a tiny village band every square inch of it seems to be let out to visiting sailors. At least one enterprising local was able to make the most of the influx of moneyed boat people she vacated her small house and let it to an English crew for the week for the rather tidy sum of £1,300. The smart regatta visitors who stayed in Cork city followed in the President, Mrs Robinson's footsteps and booked into the newly opened Hayfield Manor Hotel near UCC. Mrs Robinson stayed there last week when she was reviewed the Naval Service.
The hotel is a welcome relief from those new anonymous looking city hotels. The owners, Joe and Margaret Scally, designed it to look and feel like an old country house hotel complete with potting shed in its walled front garden. It has already become the place in Cork for a very dignified traditional afternoon tea.
