NAIROBI - President Daniel Arap Moi of Kenya played an ace at a Nairobi summit on central Africa yesterday by persuading President Nelson Mandela to join statesmen who will look for solutions to the crises there.
The summit strengthened Mr Moi's hand in the poker game of political leadership in the region, where presidents are sharply divided.
President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe also sat at the table for the first time and he - the next chairman of the Organisation of African Unity - will join Mr Moi, Mr Mandela and the current OAU chairman, President Paul Biya of Cameroon, on the team.
