Aer Lingus check-in staff at Dublin Airport who staged a short stoppage this afternoon are back at work. The stoppage started at around 3 p.m.

It is believed that health and safety officers had been called in to investigate a smell of tar.

Hundreds of irate passengers travelling away for the bank holiday weekend had been gathered around the Aer Lingus check-in area unable to check-in for their flights.

One eye witnesses told ireland.comthat the departures hall at Dublin Airport was extremely congested and that the passengers were very agitated.
