New bosses for Railtrack have been announced by the administrators who have taken over running the collapsed British railway operator.

Current chairman Mr John Robinson and chief executive Mr Steve Marshall have resigned from the Railtrack PLC board, but retained those positions with parent company Railtrack Group PLC - which is not in administration.

Mr John Armitt (55), former chief executive of construction and engineering group Costain, has been appointed as Railtrack's new chief executive.

Another new appointment is Mr Jim Cornell (62) who had 36 years of experience with British Rail and now becomes a non-executive director of Railtrack.
