Sinn Féin president Mr Gerry Adams tonight expressed opposition to the GAA’s abolition of Rule 21.
The decision has been welcomed by political leaders in Belfast, Dublin and London, but Mr Adams said he was not happy with the move.
Speaking in Belfast, however, he said GAA members would have to abide by the vote of the special congress.
Mr Adams said: "The president of the GAA made it clear that the vote should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any police service or indeed any political party."
