MR Gerry Adams's book promotion at the House of Commons seems set to go ahead, despite protests from some Ulster Unionist and Conservative MPs, and the leader of the Labour Party, Mr Tony Blair.
The Sinn Fein president is to promote his autobiography at the Palace of Westminster on September 26th.
The event will be hosted by the Labour MP, Mr Jeremy Corbyn.
It is understood the Speaker's office has deemed it within the guidelines establishing facilities and privileges available to former MPs, of whom Mr Adams is one.
Mr Andrew Hunter MP, chairman of the Conservative back bench committee on Northern Ireland, last night asked the Speaker to intervene, saying that it was inappropriate for Mr Adams to use the Palace of Westminster in this way".
Last night Mr Tony Blair said: "I condemn this event without reservation and totally dissociate the Labour Party from it."
The Speaker is on a two week trip abroad and it was not immediately clear last night who would be responding to Mr Hunter's letter.
