Colin Farrell, Peter O'Toole and Dylan Moran are among the nominees for the 2004 Irish Film and Television Awards. The awards, which recognise creative and technical achievements in the industry, will be presented in Dublin's Burlington Hotel on October 30th.
Farrell is nominated for his role in the American drama, A Home at the End of the World; O'Toole for his performance as Priam in Troy, and Moran for his TV sitcom, Black Books. The greyhound-racing comedy Man About Dog, which opens in Irish cinemas today, is nominated in 10 categories, while Adam & Paul, a black comedy about two Dublin heroin addicts, is nominated in eight.
Inside I'm Dancing, a film about two disabled Dubliners who attempt to live independently, garnered seven nominations. Timbuktu, a road movie set in Morocco, and the factually-based drama, Omagh, also feature strongly.
Other well-known faces nominated this year include Brenda Fricker (Inside I'm Dancing), Gerard McSorley (Omagh) and James Nesbitt (Wall of Silence).
In the television awards, the Current Affairs category is dominated by RTÉ's Primetime, which gains three of the five available nominations. The public is invited to cast their vote for the People's Choice Awards, for Best International Film, Best Irish Film, Best International Actress, Best International Actor and TV Personality of the Year. Highlights of the ceremony will be broadcast on RTÉ and UTV.
