Activists are planning to gather outside the British parliament in London this afternoon to protest against new laws giving police in that country extended powers of arrest for suspected terrorist offence.
Members of the group Reclaim the Streets, which helped organise the anti-capitalism protests in London last year, are due to gather in Parliament Square.
Campaigners against the new Terrorism Act - which replaces the Terrorism Act 1973 - also distributed leaflets to Home Office employees as they arrived for work this morning.
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Mr Simon Hughes said his party had serious reservations about some parts of the legislation.
Most worrying was the wide definition of terrorism, which he believed could easily be used to stifle legitimate protest.
A Reclaim the Streets spokesman said: "Activists and other campaigning groups are taking action to demonstrate that those working towards social and environmental justice will not be deterred by this Act."
Police said they were not aware of any major demonstration outside Parliament.
