ANTI DRUG campaigners in Dublin have asked the Garda to train them in mounting patrols against drug dealers and in making arrests. In a letter to Mr Tom King, the Assistant Commissioner responsible for Dublin, one of the two main groups behind the anti drugs movement in the city said the force should co operate with "community patrols".
The Inner City Organisations Network (ICON), asked that the Garda "assist in a training process for community patrols, for example how to avoid violent confrontations, and the possibility of making arrests."
Mr Tim O'Brien of ICON said patrols could be more effective if those involved knew how to make "citizen's arrests".
The letter also seeks details about Operation Dochas, the force's anti drugs initiative.
