Two former IRA prisoners and an armed robber have sued the British Home Office for damages for alleged "deliberate attacks" by prison officers following an unsuccessful breakout from a top-security jail.
Mr Danny McNamee (40), Mr Liam McCotter (37) and Andrew Russell (38) claimed they were subjected to "excessive force" on their recapture after attempting to escape from Whitemoor prison, Cambridgeshire, in September 1994. .
Russell is serving a 20year sentence for armed robbery. The hearing at the High Court, London, was adjourned until today.
