An application to suspend a publican's licence for allegedly allowing his premises to be used for drug dealing was adjourned for a month yesterday.
Mr Anthony Lowry, owner of the Peacock, in Marlborough Street, Dublin, is facing an application for suspension of his licence under Section 18 of the Licensing (Combating of Drug Abuse) Act 1997. It is believed to be the first such application in the capital.
Dublin District Court heard that following a visit by gardai to the premises last year Mr Lowry was cautioned about the alleged drug dealing. A second alleged incident occurred and a procedure under the Act was initiated whereby a senior officer can apply to a judge to suspend the licence immediately if satisfactory evidence of drug dealing is given.
