A man charged with public order offences has taken proceedings in the Dublin Metropolitan District Court against a garda for false imprisonment and harassment.
Mr Ramachchandran, a Sri Lankan-born Irish national, is himself taking criminal proceedings as a "common informer" against Garda Mary O'Sullivan of Store Street Garda station. Criminal proceedings are normally taken by the DPP.
Mr Breffni Gordon, representing Garda O'Sullivan, told the court yesterday that staff at the GPO in Dublin called for Garda assistance on September 6th last because of Mr Ramachchandran's behaviour. Ms O'Sullivan arrested him when he refused to co-operate.
She took him to Store Street Garda station and charged him, according to Mr Gordon. The case related to these charges is to be heard in the Dublin District Court today.
After he was released, Mr Ramachchandran made a complaint against Garda O'Sullivan and took proceedings against her.
Mr Gordon said the complaint was investigated by the Garda. "There will be absolutely no charges or no sanctions whatsoever," he said.
Because charges against Mr Ramachchandran were to proceed today, evidence from yesterday's case could "contaminate" today's proceedings. He asked for an adjournment.
Mr Ramachchandran, representing himself, said he had not received the statement he made at the Garda station when he filed the complaint against Garda O'Sullivan, despite being told it would be sent to him.
Judge Catherine Murphy adjourned the case until June 26th.
