A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants has been suspended for five years and fined €4,000 over a number of disciplinary breaches.

Mr Sean Clarke was also ordered to pay costs of €35,439 after an Appeals Hearing last month ruled that he was subject to disciplinary action.

The Appeals Tribunal found that Mr Clarke, with an address at Clarke & Co., Chartered Accountants, 16 Priory Hall, Stillorgan, Co Dublin, had misled the institute by stating that he had resigned as auditor from 33 audit clients when he had not.

The tribunal also ruled that he had failed to reply adequately or at all to a series of correspondence from the institute over two years on a number of issues and that he had failed to honour his undertaking to implement the institute’s requirements and restrictions to his practice.
