There have been dozens of gifts and offers of foster homes for the new-born baby discovered in a shoe-box in north Belfast at the weekend. The 7 lb 11 oz baby boy, named Christopher by nurses at the Royal Maternity Hospital in Belfast, is doing well after being abandoned by his mother only two hours after being born.
He was found in the grounds of Fortwilliam Golf Club by Ms Joanne Clarke and her husband, Dessie, who had just left the club when they discovered the tiny bundle in freezing conditions on Sunday night. Well-wishers from all over Ireland have been sending clothes, cards and cuddly toys for the little boy. "And we have been inundated with offers of foster homes, including from Dublin," a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police have repeated their call for the mother to come forward and be reunited with her baby son. Insp Mark Kernohan said: "I would like to reassure her there's nothing to worry about. She has nothing to fear. She may need some medical help. We'd like her to get that."
