Sunday, November 1st: "Monsters, Maggots and Musical Squares" at the RDS Dublin Main Hall, 11 a.m.6 p.m., a fun science day for all school children and families. Host for the day is 2FM presenter Gerry Ryan. "The Deeper Picture", National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, explains how Ireland's art treasures are protected and conserved (continues until December 14th).

Monday, November 2nd: "Food Safety Challenge", Information Centre, Food Safety Authority, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin, 10 a.m.3.30 p.m.

Tuesday, November 3rd: "Music of the Spheres", Waterford Institute of Technology, 7 p.m., classical music and planetary exploration.

Wednesday, November 4th: Lecture on the public understanding of science by Irish Times columnist Dr William Reville, UCC, 8 p.m.

RDS Science Communication Forum, competition where students must explain their research in non-technical language, RDS, 9.30 p.m.5.30 p.m., admission free but book by phoning (01) 6680866.

Sunday, November 8th: Urban geology walk, meet Nassau Street entrance to TCD, 2 p.m.
