Actor Frank Kelly stepped forward at the Dublin Bookshop wearing a festive pink shirt as "official launcher" of So . . . Graeme Keyes, a book of the cartoonist's newspaper and magazine work. Kelly was the ideal launcher for Keyes's book, as his own father flew the flag of satire at Dublin Opinion for 42 years.
Gag merchant Keyes, who said he is famous for his shortness as well as his short speeches, was indeed short and sweet. Later he said the reaction he gets to his cartoons ranges from outraged complaint (though "either I'm getting older or they're getting older, because I don't get quite so many angry letters") to one woman who wrote him a poem of praise!
