A 26 YEAR OLD woman was awarded £8,980 damages yesterday for being knocked to the ground outside a Dublin night club as security men were ejecting a troublemaker a year ago.
In the Circuit Civil Court yesterday, Judge Dominic Lynch was told "burly bouncers" were throwing out an objectionable patron through the crowd of 800 Christmas revellers last December at the Night Owls club.
Ms Paula Whelan (26), of Kildonan Avenue, Finglas, Dublin, told Mr Declan Doyle, her counsel, she was knocked backwards on to steps and injured her head, neck and back.
The club owner, Mr Des Wooton, told his counsel, Mr Niall Durnin, he and his staff were unaware of any such incident. Their record book had "no incidents" listed that night.
He said he first knew of it when he received a solicitor's letter. He agreed with Mr Doyle he rang Ms Whelan and told her he would compensate her if she had been injured.
Mr Wooton said he had to pay the first £10,000 of each claim against his insurance but he denied he had told Ms Whelan to get rid of her solicitors and talk to him about it.
