ONE of the grand old warriors literature reached a significant milestone this week when Pearse Hutchinson celebrated his 70th birthday in Bewleys of Grafton Street. The poet was feted by his fellow wordsmiths, who marked the occasion by producing a special booklet of poems addressed to the man himself. Poet and novelist P.J. Kavanagh made the trip from London to attend the event, which was organised by poets Eilean Ni Chuilleanain and Macdara Woods.
Playwright Vincent Woods of At The Black Pigs Dyke fame was also in attendance at Sunday's event with the company dispersing to Hutchinson's local stomping ground, McCarthys in Rathmines, after a rollicking evening in Bewleys which included, Catalan music in honour of the writer, who used to live in Barcelona.
