The Irish are set to spend £613 million on millennium celebrations, with an average spend of £243 per person, according to a survey published this morning. The Jameson International Millennium Survey, carried out by MORI, also finds that Dubliners will spend more on the festivities than people in Cape Town, Sydney or Prague, though less than their counterparts in London, Paris and New York. The highest average spend will be by Londoners, at £400 sterling per person.
Some 83 per cent of Irish people said they intended to spend the New Year with family and friends.
