Reports of a price rise of 5p on the pint in some Dublin bars in the run-up to Christmas are being denied by publicans in the capital. Last year, publicans were forced by the Competition Authority to forgo such unilaterally-imposed increases.
The Licensed Vintners' Association has confirmed that officially no such increases are in train in Dublin. Similarly, the owners of several prominent Dublin bars insisted last night that they did not intend to impose an increase on the pint.
