Gardaí made 480 drugs-related arrests during yesterday's Creamfields dance event at Punchestown racecourse, a sharp increase on last year.

According to a Garda spokesperson, 380 of the arrests have resulted in files being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. It is not known the value of the confiscated drugs but most are believed to be small quantities of hash or ecstasy.Last year there were 400 arrests and gardaí were happy that a hard-line policing plan succeeded.An estimated 34,000 clubbers descended on the Co Kildare racecourse for the first outdoor music festival of the summer.Dance icons Beck, Fatboy Slim and Outkast headlined the event which included80 bands. The festival was organised in conjunction with Cream, the Liverpool nightclub.
