A Cork woman, Ms Mary Cahill, of Comeragh Park, The Glen, has been awarded £52,500 damages after suing the Southern Health Board for medical negligence in the High Court in Cork yesterday.
Following a traffic accident on April 9th, 1991, Ms Cahill suffered broken ribs, head injuries and a broken hip. She was admitted to the intensive care unit of Cork Regional Hospital and spent three weeks on a ventilator. She left the hospital with an unsightly and permanent scar.
Mr Justice McCraken said that claims of medical negligence were successful where it was proved that the defendants had deviated from general and approved practices.
