Up to 50,000 tyres are on fire at a Derry village. Residents near Campsie Industrial Estate, Eglinton, have been told to keep their windows closed and the fire has raged for more than 10 hours.

It started at around 10pm last night and more than 70 firefighters, including crews from across Northern Ireland and Donegal have been at the scene.

Fire Service District Commander Ian Doyle said that 16 appliances were pumping thousands of gallons of water onto the fire.

“A huge plume of smoke has been issuing from the fire,” he said.
