Five people, one a toddler, were yesterday receiving treatment for meningitis in hospitals across Northern Ireland. An 18month-old boy from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, was described as "stable" by staff at the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh. The North's Department of Health has warned parents to be extra-vigilant for symptoms of the illness in their children as a result of the recent outbreak.
A 21-year-old woman from Ballygawley, Co Tyrone, also described as "stable", is being cared for in the Craigavon Hospital, Co Armagh. A 21-year-old man from mid-Ulster is said to be "ill" by staff at Magherafelt hospital in Co Derry. Two teenage sisters from Co Antrim, who became ill in their home on Monday, continue their fight against meningococcal septicaemia. The older sister is said to be responding well at Antrim Area hospital. The second sister is described as "seriously ill but stable."
