Connecting water pipes from a £4 million main pipe project in Co Limerick have not yet been laid and, as a result, some areas have not received water from a new source two years after work began to lay the main pipes.

The pipes were laid along the N69, the main Limerick-Foynes road, to carry water to a proposed industrial park in Askeaton and residential areas in Kildimo and Pallaskenry.

While connecting pipes have been laid in Askeaton, none has been laid to connect Kildimo or Pallaskenry to the main water pipes.

Limerick County Council has said it is awaiting funding from the Department of the Environment for the additional pipes, which would cost approximately £4 million. The Department said it was still looking into requests for funding the pipes.

The £4 million spent on laying the initial pipes along the N69 includes money for resurfacing the roads, which was required after the pipes were laid.

The project was carried out to bring water quality in the area up to EU standards, Limerick County Council said.
